Racing number plates – why so popular?

Racing number plates – why so popular?

With the advent of A1 – the increasing popularity of F1 and now the possible creation of a rival championship – there has always been a strong and enthusiastic demand for racing number plates and car number plates.

Enthusiasts of varying wallet sizes adorn their own “racing” cars with reg plates ranging from the famous “F1” to “321GO” to “R4CER”

Such registration plates are as witty as they are unique and now GPR1X is a plate for sale – and set to reach 5 figures when it’s offered for sale.

GPR1X or Grand Prix derives from the French for “Grand Prize” and originates from horse racing in 1863.

It was adopted by the motor racing world and is often shortened to GPRIX – hence the suitability of this plate.

How much will this plate fetch? We’ll have to wait for the chequered flag…
